Our Pivots in 2024

Ou nearly death experience,

Failure & Pivots

In early 2024, we were focused on launching a health insurance product. Despite our efforts, traction remained low—900 users in January, 1,300 in February, and just 400 in March. For eight straight months, growth stalled.

Yet throughout this time, we kept hearing one thing from our community: a growing demand for food support. We ignored it at first, committed to the product we loved. But over time, we realized that while the need for health insurance is real, the market conditions made it nearly impossible to scale quickly.

In October 2024, we made the hard decision to pivot fully to Tiva Food, a no-interest food financing solution. Within weeks, the response was overwhelming:

October: 16,000 users
November: 400,000 users
December: 980,000 users
January 2025: 1 million users in just 6 days

What took us a year with health insurance happened in a week with food.

Kinshasa represents a high-growth frontier where over 17 million people face daily food access challenges. By launching operations in this market, Tiva Microfinance Bank has the potential to facilitate over $7 billion annually in food-related purchases, deposits, and transactions—translating into an estimated $210 million in ARR within 6–12 months of launch.
